Surgent Studios, the creator of Tales of Kenzera: Zau, has joined forces with Pocketpair Publishing, the recently established publishing branch of Pocketpair (Palworld, Craftopia) to develop a horror game set for release in 2025.
Surgent remains engaged in discussions with prospective partners regarding Project Uso (unveiled in October 2024) as well as other endeavors within the Tales of Kenzera realm. However, this game represents a fresh direction for the studio, founded by House of the Dragon actor Abubakar Salim.
This intriguing new game, crafted by Surgent Studios, will be outside the Tales of Kenzera realm, the companies indicated.
Abubakar Salim, CEO of Surgent Studios, expressed in a statement, “Both Surgent and Pocketpair are adept at embracing risks. We recognized a trend in the entertainment sector, and Pocketpair has offered us the chance to create a horror game centered around it. It will be brief and unusual, and we believe players will be curious about our message.”
He mentioned that the company is still actively discussing additional projects within the Tales of Kenzera realm, but this will function as an independent piece, “a milestone marking our past and future.”
John Buckley, Head of Pocketpair Publishing, stated, “As the gaming industry expands, an increasing number of games find it challenging to secure funding or approval. We find this to be quite unfortunate, as there are numerous brilliant creators and concepts that merely require a bit of assistance to transform into remarkable games.”
He noted that Pocketpair was “immediate captivated by Abubakar’s imaginative vision for a horror game on a subject he’s exceptionally qualified to delve into. Pocketpair Publishing’s ultimate objective is to discover creators with genuine enthusiasm for games and empower them to develop engaging, new experiences for gamers worldwide.”
The game is anticipated to launch later this year.
